Vietnam to USA Freight Forwarding

Trusted Vietnam to USA shipping with transparent door-to-door quotes

Vietnam has become one of the largest sources of US imports, and what it ships fills containers: wooden and upholstered furniture from the Binh Duong area (now part of Ho Chi Minh City) and Dong Nai, apparel and footwear, shrimp and pangasius, coffee, cashews and pepper, and a fast-growing range of machinery and electrical equipment from the industrial zones around Hanoi, Bac Ninh and Hai Phong. Most of it leaves through two gateways. In the south, the deep-water terminals at Cai Mep–Thi Vai — now also part of Ho Chi Minh City — take direct mainline sailings to Los Angeles and Long Beach, with the river terminals at Cat Lai feeding through Singapore. In the north, Hai Phong and its deep-water port at Lach Huyen serve the electronics and machinery belt. The tariff picture changed twice in 2026: the IEEPA tariffs, including the 20% rate on Vietnamese goods and the 40% rate on transshipped goods, ended when they were struck down in February, and since 24 July 2026 most Vietnamese goods carry a 12.5% Section 301 layer instead. What has not changed is the scrutiny of where goods were really made.

AGF Advantage on This Lane

We work through WCA partner agents in Vietnam; AGF has no office there. Our partner agents handle factory pickup, export customs and container loading in the south and the north, AGF books the ocean or air freight as an FMC-licensed NVOCC, and the US entry is filed by our licensed customs brokers, with our Glendale team running delivery and partner warehousing near the Los Angeles and Long Beach ports. What we add on this lane is origin diligence. Many Vietnamese supply chains still run on Chinese components and fabric, and our own office in Foshan knows those supply chains — which Chinese products carry antidumping and countervailing duty orders, and which do not — so we ask the origin questions before the booking rather than after CBP does. We will not ship cargo whose origin documents we cannot stand behind. Quotes are door to door, with exclusions listed up front.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does shipping from Vietnam to the USA take?
Direct sailings from Cai Mep–Thi Vai to Los Angeles and Long Beach take about 21-23 days on the water. Cargo loaded at Cat Lai usually transships in Singapore, which makes it about 28-32 days. Hai Phong and Lach Huyen in the north also have direct services to the West Coast. To the East Coast, plan on about 35 days to New York and about 40 days to Savannah. Add origin trucking and US clearance and delivery for the door-to-door figure, which we confirm per booking. Two seasonal effects matter: factories close for Tết — 6 February in 2027 — and the weeks before it are the busiest of the year, and typhoons between June and November can delay sailings from the northern and central ports.
What is the import duty from Vietnam to the USA?
Most Vietnamese goods pay their normal (MFN) duty plus the 12.5% Section 301 layer that has applied since 24 July 2026. Goods under Section 232 — upholstered wooden furniture, kitchen cabinets and vanities, and steel, aluminum and copper products — pay the Section 232 tariff instead and are exempt from the layer, and coffee and spices are exempt as well. Some products also carry antidumping or countervailing duties of their own, among them shrimp, pangasius fillets and, since 2026, hardwood plywood. Two more Section 301 investigations — one into Vietnam's intellectual-property practices, one into excess capacity — and the US–Vietnam trade deal are still open, so our licensed customs brokers confirm the total for your exact HS code at quoting.
Is there still a transshipment tariff on goods from Vietnam?
Not as a tariff. The 40% rate on transshipped goods was an IEEPA tariff, and it ended with the rest of the IEEPA tariffs in February 2026. Transshipment is now policed in other ways: CBP investigations under the Enforce and Protect Act (EAPA), antidumping and countervailing duty scope rulings that follow Chinese components into Vietnamese products, and penalties under 19 USC 1592 for false origin declarations. Origin is the country where the goods were last substantially transformed, not where they were packed. Goods genuinely made in Vietnam are Vietnamese; goods relabeled there are not.
How much does it cost to ship a container from Vietnam to the USA?
Ocean rates on the trans-Pacific move with the season and carrier capacity, so any figure published on a website is out of date within weeks. What decides your number is the port pair (a direct Cai Mep sailing or a Cat Lai transshipment, West Coast or East Coast), the container type, the inland delivery, and the duties on your HS lines, which usually outweigh the freight. We quote door to door with the exclusions — duties and taxes, and event-driven charges such as exams, demurrage and storage — listed up front.
Do you have an office in Vietnam?
No. AGF's offices are in Glendale, California, and Foshan, China. In Vietnam we work through WCA partner agents, who handle pickup, export customs and loading, while AGF books the freight and runs the US end. You deal with AGF throughout, and you can verify our FMC licence (OTI #031665NF) before you pay anyone — worth doing on any freight booking, because freight scams are common enough to check for.
Can you store my goods in the USA and ship orders from there?
Yes, through partner warehouses near the Los Angeles and Long Beach ports: devanning, storage, pick-and-pack and onward trucking, including replenishment to Amazon and other marketplace warehouses. Vietnamese exporters selling direct to US customers also need a US importer of record and a customs bond, which we help set up with our licensed customs brokers.
