USA to Vietnam Freight Forwarding

Trusted USA to Vietnam shipping with transparent door-to-door quotes

The westbound trade to Vietnam is smaller than the flow the other way, but parts of it are a natural fit for us. American hardwoods — oak, ash, walnut, maple, cherry and poplar — go to the furniture factories in the Binh Duong area (now part of Ho Chi Minh City), Dong Nai and the central coast, which are among the largest buyers of US hardwood anywhere. US cotton goes to Vietnamese spinning mills. And Southern California is home to the largest Vietnamese community outside Vietnam, a short drive from our Glendale headquarters, so families moving back to Vietnam to live are a steady part of this lane. We ship full and shared containers. We do not run a per-box parcel service to Vietnam.

AGF Advantage on This Lane

AGF runs the US end from Glendale: collection from mills, yards and homes, export documentation, AES filing and the ocean booking as an FMC-licensed NVOCC. In Vietnam we work through WCA partner agents, who clear customs and deliver; AGF has no office there. For hardwood, the value we add is documentation. A Vietnamese furniture maker exporting to the US has to declare the species and country of harvest of every piece of wood, and to show that its inputs are not Chinese; clean US export paperwork for the lumber is part of that proof. For household moves, we explain the Vietnamese duty rules for returning residents before you pack, including what the relief does not cover — cars and motorbikes.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does shipping from the USA to Vietnam take?
It depends on the service: some westbound rotations sail more directly to Vietnam than others, and some transship in another Asian hub. Transit from the West Coast is shorter than from the East Coast or the Gulf, where much of the hardwood trade loads. We confirm the transit for each booking rather than quote a figure that does not match the sailing you are on.
Can I ship my household goods to Vietnam duty-free?
If you are returning to live in Vietnam permanently, Vietnamese rules allow used household goods and personal effects to enter free of import duty and VAT, limited to one of each type of item. Cars and motorbikes have been excluded from that relief since 2016 and pay full taxes. The relief depends on your residence status and paperwork in Vietnam, so our partner agent there confirms eligibility before the container is packed.
Can I ship a car from the USA to Vietnam?
Only in narrow circumstances, and rarely economically. A returning resident can import a personal car only under conditions on how long it has been registered to them abroad and how far it has been driven, and it then pays import duty, special consumption tax and VAT, which together can exceed the car's value. On the US side the title goes to CBP at least 72 hours before export and every used vehicle needs an EEI filing. We price it honestly before you commit, and often the answer is to sell the car here.
Do you ship hardwood lumber and logs to Vietnam?
Yes. Kiln-dried hardwood lumber and hardwood logs ship in containers from East Coast, Gulf and West Coast ports, with a phytosanitary certificate from USDA APHIS and any treatment Vietnam requires. Vietnam's timber legality rules require the importer to document legal origin, and the furniture maker will need the species and country of harvest for its own US exports, so we keep the paperwork consistent from the mill to the factory.
