Malaysia to USA Freight Forwarding

Trusted Malaysia to USA shipping with transparent door-to-door quotes

Malaysia ships the United States a distinctive mix of container cargo: servers, networking and power equipment from the electronics clusters around Penang and the Klang Valley; nitrile and latex gloves from one of the world's largest glove industries; rubberwood dining and bedroom furniture from Muar in Johor; lithium-ion cells, packs and storage systems; and palm oil and oleochemicals from refineries in Johor, Selangor and Pahang. Five ports carry it — Port Klang and Tanjung Pelepas, both major hub ports with direct and transshipped services across the Pacific, plus Pasir Gudang, Penang and Kuantan — and Kuala Lumpur (KLIA) and Penang airports carry the electronics that fly. On tariffs, Malaysian goods have paid a Section 301 layer of 10% on top of their normal duty since 24 July 2026, with exemptions that include goods covered by Section 232, crude and refined palm oil, and servers. The reciprocal trade agreement Malaysia signed with the US in 2025 is not in force: Malaysia declared it void in March 2026. What has not changed is the scrutiny of where goods were really made, and by whom.

AGF Advantage on This Lane

We work through WCA partner agents in Malaysia; AGF has no office there. Our partner agents handle factory pickups across the peninsula, the K2 export declaration in uCustoms, container stuffing and delivery to Port Klang, Tanjung Pelepas, Pasir Gudang, Penang or Kuantan. AGF books the ocean or air freight as an FMC-licensed NVOCC and coordinates the US end: the ISF, the customs entry filed by our licensed customs brokers, and drayage, warehousing and delivery through partner carriers. What we add is the checking this lane now demands. Since 6 May 2025 only MITI issues non-preferential certificates of origin for US-bound goods, CBP has repeatedly found Chinese goods routed through Malaysia and declared as Malaysian, and several of Malaysia's main exports — gloves, palm oil, electronics — have a forced-labor enforcement history. So we confirm the classification, the origin evidence and the agency paperwork (FDA, FCC, Lacey Act, TSCA) before the container is booked, and we will not ship cargo whose origin documents we cannot stand behind. Quotes are door to door, with exclusions listed up front.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does shipping from Malaysia to the USA take?
Port to port, Port Klang or Tanjung Pelepas to Los Angeles / Long Beach takes about 18-24 days on a direct sailing, and 3-7 days more when the service transships. To the East Coast, plan on about 30-38 days to New York and 28-36 days to Savannah. Door to door, add origin trucking and export clearance at one end and customs, drayage and delivery at the other. Air freight from KLIA or Penang is the option for urgent electronics, with routing and transit confirmed per booking.
What is the import tax from Malaysia to the USA?
Malaysian goods pay the normal (MFN) duty for their HS line plus, since 24 July 2026, a Section 301 layer of 10%. Some goods are exempt from that layer: anything covered by a Section 232 action follows its own rules instead (upholstered wooden furniture, kitchen cabinets and vanities, steel, aluminum and copper products), crude and refined palm oil are exempt, and so are servers. A few products carry antidumping or countervailing duties on Malaysian origin — mattresses and solar cells among them. The reciprocal trade agreement signed in 2025 is not in force, because Malaysia declared it void in March 2026. Rates and exemptions change, so our licensed customs brokers confirm the total for your exact HS code at quoting.
Do I need a certificate of origin to ship from Malaysia to the USA?
US customs does not ask for one on most entries, but you must declare the true origin and be able to prove it, and buyers increasingly ask for one as evidence. Since 6 May 2025 the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) has been the only issuer of non-preferential certificates of origin for exports to the United States — chambers of commerce no longer issue them for US shipments. The exporter also lodges the K2 export declaration in uCustoms, the Royal Malaysian Customs system, before the goods leave.
Which Malaysian port should I ship from?
Usually the one nearest the factory that has a good service to your US port. Port Klang serves Kuala Lumpur and the Klang Valley; Tanjung Pelepas and Pasir Gudang serve Johor, including the Muar furniture belt and the palm oil and oleochemical plants around Pasir Gudang; Penang serves the northern electronics and glove factories; and Kuantan on the east coast serves the Gebeng industrial area. We compare direct and transshipped options from each and confirm the routing per booking.
When do Malaysian factories close for holidays?
Plan around three festivals. Chinese New Year (6 February in 2027) closes many Chinese-Malaysian-owned factories, including much of the furniture industry, for a week or more. Hari Raya Aidilfitri at the end of Ramadan slows production and trucking while workers travel home, and Deepavali is a public holiday too. Space also tightens before each closure, so book ahead of them rather than after.
Does AGF have an office in Malaysia?
No. AGF's offices are in Glendale, California and Foshan, China. In Malaysia we work through WCA partner agents, who handle pickups, export clearance and container loading under our booking, while AGF manages the freight and the US side.
