China to France Freight Forwarding

Trusted China to France shipping with transparent door-to-door quotes

China is one of France's largest suppliers, with French imports from China worth roughly $84 billion a year, and the cargo is the kind that fills containers: machinery and production equipment, electrical goods and batteries, furniture and lighting, steel and aluminium products, textiles and building materials. Almost all of it goes by sea. Services from South China and the Yangtze ports call at Le Havre, France's main container gateway for Paris and the north, and at Marseille-Fos for Lyon, the Rhône valley and the south; carriers route Asia–Europe services either through Suez or around the Cape of Good Hope, and the choice changes transit by roughly 10-15 days. Air freight lands at Paris Charles de Gaulle. Rail is a middle option on cost and time, and we book it only one way: the Middle Corridor through Kazakhstan, across the Caspian and through the Caucasus. We do not book China–Europe trains that cross Russia or Belarus.

AGF Advantage on This Lane

AGF's own office in Foshan is staffed by our own team, not an agent, and it is where this lane starts. We coordinate with your suppliers, check goods and packing before loading, consolidate several factories into one container, supervise and photograph the loading, and prepare the Chinese export documents. At the French end we work through WCA partner agents in France — AGF has no office there — and French import clearance is made by a registered customs representative working with our partner, in the name of the French importer. We are also honest about what this lane is not: we move containers and pallets for businesses, not e-commerce parcels to consumers, which since July 2026 carry a flat EU customs duty of €3. Quotes are door to door, with exclusions listed up front.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does shipping from China to France take?
It depends first on the carrier's routing. Asia–Europe services either transit Suez or sail around the Cape of Good Hope, and the Cape adds roughly 10-15 days; carriers decide service by service, so two containers booked the same week can arrive a fortnight apart. Le Havre suits Paris and the north, Marseille-Fos the south and Lyon, and the Mediterranean gateway gains most when a service uses Suez. We confirm the actual routing and transit on your booking rather than quoting an average. Air freight to Paris CDG takes days; Middle Corridor rail sits between the two and is quoted per booking.
How much does a 40ft container from China to France cost?
There is no fixed price, and a number quoted without a date is out of date. The ocean rate moves with the season — it rises before Lunar New Year and in the summer peak — and with the routing, because a Cape routing uses more fuel and vessel time than Suez. On top come carrier surcharges, including the EU emissions-trading surcharge carriers apply on European calls, terminal and port charges in France, delivery inland, and the French import duty and VAT on the goods. We quote door to door from the factory in China to your warehouse in France, with the routing named and exclusions listed up front.
Is there a train from China to France?
Yes, but we book only one routing: the Middle Corridor, which runs from China through Kazakhstan, across the Caspian Sea to Azerbaijan, through Georgia, and on via the Black Sea or Türkiye into Europe, with the final leg to France by rail or road. We do not book China–Europe trains that cross Russia or Belarus. The Middle Corridor has more handoffs and limited Caspian ferry capacity, so it sits between sea and air on both cost and transit time, and we quote it per booking with buffer time planned in.
What duties and VAT apply to Chinese goods imported into France?
Goods pay the EU Common Customs Tariff for their CN code, and import VAT at the French rate, 20% for most goods; businesses registered for VAT in France account for import VAT on their VAT return rather than paying it at the border. Some Chinese goods also carry EU antidumping or countervailing duties — e-bikes, ceramic tableware, aluminium extrusions, several steel products and battery-electric cars among them. Steel and aluminium goods fall under the EU's carbon border mechanism (CBAM), which needs an authorised declarant above an annual tonnage threshold. Rates and scope change, so they are confirmed at quoting.
What compliance do Chinese products need to sell in France?
Consumer and industrial products need the right EU conformity marking — CE for machinery, electrical goods, toys and much else — with a technical file behind it, and consumer products need an EU-based responsible operator under the General Product Safety Regulation. France adds extended producer responsibility (REP): whoever places electrical goods, batteries, furniture, packaging and several other product groups on the French market must join an approved scheme and obtain a unique identifier from ADEME. We check these with the importer before booking, because goods that cannot be sold are expensive to store.
